Welcome to Day 3 of Gratitude Week at Heart Centered Living
Today's Topic is "When is the best time to practice gratitude?"
IMHO, it's always a good time to practice gratitude - whenever you think of it. In fact, the more you focus on what you are grateful for, the happier you will feel.
But if you are just getting started, then I personally recommend you start and end your day with gratitude.
Starting Your Day with Gratitude
As you probably know, starting your day with gratitude helps put you in a positive mindset and helps set your whole day on a positive trajectory.
And, even if you got out of bed on the wrong side, then you can STILL turn things around by doing a simple gratitude practice.
But, did you know that it's equally important - if not more important - to end your day with gratitude?
Ending Your Day with Gratitude
I recently read that a majority of adults have problems sleeping at night. If you are one of them, then ending your day with gratitude can really help.
Practicing gratitude before bed is kinda like ending your day with a "ta da" list rather than a "to do" list. It just makes you feel better because your focus is on achievement and gratitude rather than stressful things you have to do tomorrow.
By thinking about what you are grateful for and did well before you sleep, you are actually helping your nervous system unwind and relax, which will help you fall asleep faster.
In addition, when you practice gratitude before you sleep, you are programming your subconscious mind that "all is well." And, there are many benefits to that including better dreams, more restful sleep and a better chance you will wake up refreshed and happier tomorrow morning.
Day 3 Gratitude Practice
Today's simple gratitude practice is to make gratitude the last thing you do when you turn off the lights, get into bed and get ready to fall asleep.
When you are ready for bed, think back over your day and think about 5 things you personally did well.
Then, think about all of the people who made your successes today possible.
They could be people who helped you get something done. So, they were directly involved in your success. Or, they could be your loved ones who support you by giving you time and space to let you fly.
Let you self relax and revel in your "ta da" list and all you have to be thankful for so you can drift to sleep in bliss.
